When Cloud Atlas first arrived, it arrived in my in-box, and I excitedly went to print it. As the pages were emerging, I had a panic attack. The sections were all out of order, and sections randomly ended. (Sadly, printing things on printers was never one of my strengths). When I returned to my desk, after making myself my customary cup of Earl Grey tea, I discovered an e-mail from David’s lovely agent Johnny reassuring me that that was the way the book went. Phew. I provided editorial notes, along with a few of my brilliant colleagues (Angelika Glover and Kendall Anderson, are your ears ringing?), as part of a larger group of editors for a few of David’s books. He is a bloody genius, and one of the kindest people I have ever met. Fun fact, he wore a tie that I had given him to the Booker Prize ceremony in 2010.
