"The End of Ignorance"
An award winning playwright, brilliant mathematics scholar, John Mighton decided that he didn’t like the way his daughter was being taught math in school. So he went on to found JUMP, Junior Undiscovered Math Prodigies, a way of learning in which no student is left behind. He told me about it at a book launch of Warren Dunford’s Making a Killing, a delightful mystery that more people need to read. Since then John has published a few books on the subject, the first two I got to acquire, and one I even got to edit (long story). It was because of John that I met Sherrie Johnson, one of the greatest theatre producers in all the land. But I digress. The Myth of Ability and The End of Ignorance are essential to understand the way we think about learning, the responsibility we have to our children, and how society can hold itself to higher standards. John is a hero of mine. As I told him, “I got into publishing so that I might be so lucky to publish such a book as The End of Ignorance.” And I meant it. It is such a privilege to have shepherded such amazing and passionate people and allowed them to get their messages to the world.
