"The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ"
Alfred A Knopf, Canada was part of a consortium of international publishers that came together to inspire great writers to re-tell the great myths that guide our lives.  Philip Pullman went straight to the Bible, and his myth re-telling was called THE GOOD MAN JESUS AND THE SCOUNDREL CHRIST. I read the manuscript and had some thoughts about how Mary was depicted. At six in the morning one cold Toronto morning, I gave my opinion to the man who wrote (and has gone on to write even more) one of the greatest stories ever told, about his take on what has been called THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD. (Are you following?)  Again, it was a conversation I will cherish, as I will cherish our lunch at the Ashmolean Museum, which was preceeded by a tour of Oxford in the rain, while Philip showed me all the spots where Lyra was. We then went to the chapel, where I sang a tune for the great master. What a life I’ve led.
