"Generica" aka "Happiness ™"
My boss at Penguin dumped a manuscript on my desk, saying “The agent says this is funny. I don’t have a sense of humour.” Well, luckily, I do, and I immediately was chortling and guffawing at my desk. I immediately fell in love with Generica, a brilliant publishing satire, whose main character, Edwin deValue, as Will says in the acknowledgements, is in no way based on me.  It went on to be published by Canongate Books in the UK, was retitled Happiness and appeared in twenty-three languages.  I also published Will’s travel memoir Beauty Tips from Moose Jaw, a trip across Canada. It is a great book. My fondest memory from that publicity tour was being at the Temple Gardens Spa in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan with Shelagh Rogers and Will. What a time. Will went on to win the Giller Prize for 419. So, you could say I have a nose for award winning authors.
